Production and Processing of gas

Natural gas is generally stored in a porous rocks surrounded by impermeable layers and water. Here, it has gathered as a specifically thin substance during thousands of years above the layers of oil and water. Gas is extracted by bores that are leaded straight to the porous layers of beds in the depth of 3 kilometres beneath the earth surface. It is extracted from beds on the land (Russia, Algeria, the Netherlands) and also beneath the sea floor (the North Sea).

Before it is transported, it is necessary to process gas to the quality that corresponds to its commercial utilization. The technology of purification depends on the composition of gas. As natural gas is often extracted together with oil, it contains high shares of higher hydrocarbons. It is also necessary to remove substances that could negatively influence distribution systems. They are substances like water and sulphur that cause corrosion of appliances and also dust that could cause failures of the compressor and regulation stations.
