Liberalized gas market
Since July 1, 2007 the complete liberalization (opening) of the natural gas market has been in effect in Slovakia; this has allowed all customers to select their own gas supplier.
At the same time, unbundling was completed, or in other words the division of gas distribution (physical flow) and gas sales (sales flow).
Gas sales
RWE Gas Slovensko is the largest competing gas supplier on the Slovak market. Not only do we provide our customers with gas sales services but we also secure gas distribution related matters via our Combined Delivery Contracts.
Gas distribution
The actual transportation of gas to our customers is executed by a number of gas market entities.
Transportation
The Slovak gas transportation network is a part of the international transportation network. The main gas pipeline in Slovakia is operated by eustream, a.s.
Distribution
Natural gas then enters the Slovak distribution network from the main gas pipeline where gas lines distribute it directly to customers. This network is operated by SPP – distribúcia, a.s. This company secures the distribution of gas for all customers located in Slovakia without regard to whom they provide gas or from whom such customers purchase their gas.
Storage capacity
Another important entity on our market is Nafta, a.s. It operates the largest underground gas storage areas that are used to cover seasonal gaps in gas consumption.
